Public Assistance Emergency Hospital, ChileTitle: Purulent pericarditis and tuberculosis pericarditis.
Abstract
Purulent pericarditis is a rare disease with high mortality. In the pre-antibiotic era, it was
observed in complicated pneumonia patients. Gram-positive coccaceae was the most commonly
bacteria implicated. On the other hand, tuberculous pericarditis represents 1% of all tuberculosis
(TBC) cases, although it is common in endemic areas, associated with human immunodeficiency
virus (HIV) infection.
Despite advances in antimicrobial treatment and surgical techniques, they continue to be
pathologies with high morbidity and mortality
