Shigenori Ito

Dr. Ito completed his M.D. from Nagoya City University in 1984 and his Ph.D. in Cardiology from Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences in 1994. From 1984 to 1996, he worked as a cardiologist at several affiliations of Nagoya City University. Between 1996 and 1998, he served as a research scientist at the Washington (DC) Hospital Center in the Interventional Cardiology and Angiographic Core Laboratory under the executive directorship of Dr. Jeffrey J. Popma. He then became an Instructor in the Department of First Internal Medicine at Nagoya City University from 1998 to 2001. From 2001 to 2004, he was the Director of the Division of Cardiology at Toyohashi Heart Center, followed by his tenure as Director of Fourth Internal Medicine at Moriyama Municipal Hospital in Nagoya from 2004 to 2007. He subsequently served as Director of Cardiology at Nagoya City East Medical Center from 2007 to 2015, before becoming Vice President of Higashiyama Clinic under the Junshukai Medical Foundation in Nagoya from 2015 to 2016. Since 2016, he has been part of the Division of Cardiology at Sankuro Hospital in Toyota.
Research Interest
Dr. Ito's research interests include interventional cardiology, especially coronary imaging (IVUS and OCT), chronic total occlusions, quantitative coronary angiography, core laboratory analysis, and coronary vasospasm. In recent years, he has investigated exercise training for cardiac and lifestyle related diseases, especially high intensity interval training is his current research topic. He has a total of 168 published research papers (95 were written in English and 73 in Japanese) and a total of 17 book chapters.
